The golden city of Bath has been welcoming visitors for over 2,000 years. Designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, Bath presents some of the finest architectural sights in Europe, such as the Roman Baths and Pump Room, the Royal Crescent, Pulteney Bridge and the Circus. Farleigh Hungerford Castle Set in the picturesque valley of the River Frome, this impressive castle hides a sinister past. Visit the chapel for medieval wall paintings & take a look into the crypt! Throughout the year history comes alive with an extensive programme of living history, military re-enactments, music and drama. Botanical Gardens The gardens are situated in Royal Victoria Park. They were created in 1887 and boast one of the finest collections of flowers, trees and shrubs in the West Country. The replica of a Roman Temple was exhibited at the British Empire Exhibition which was held at Wembley in London in 1924. Victoria Art Gallery The Victoria Art Gallery is a free public facility located in the centre of the beautiful city of Bath. Open all year round, it is visited by 92,000 people annually. The Gallery houses Bath & North East Somerset's collection of paintings, sculpture and decorative arts. The building was designed in 1897 by a Scottish architect, John McKean Brydon. To celebrate Queen Victoria's sixty years on the throne, it was decided to name the Gallery after her. Jane Austen Centre Celebrating Bath’s most famous resident, The Jane Austen Centre offers a snapshot of life during Regency times and explores how living in this magnificent city affected Jane Austen’s life and writing. ‘Live’ Guides, costume, film, superb giftshop and an authentic period atmosphere await you at this premier attraction. Bath Boating Station A Victorian Boating Station offering traditional boat hire by the hour or day. Rowing, punting and canoeing are available. Free punting lessons if required. We are on a beautiful stretch of river going out to the old toll bridge at Bathampton. |
